With the current trends of multi-core System-on-a-Chips it becomes more appealing to In-Vehicle Infotainment system designers to consolidate into the same SoC functions that were previously deployed on separate ECUs.

Linux Containers (LXC) are increasingly getting attention from IVI system architects as a way of partitioning the software architecture of an IVI system into domains - by sharing the Linux kernel and relying on specific kernel features to provide separation and allocation of resources to containers.

The LXCBENCH Open Source Project, proposed by the Politecnico di Torino, has been launched and supported by the GENIVI Alliance in order to spread knowledge about Linux Containers and to develop tools to measure performance impacts.

This presentation will explain the current status of the GENIVI LXCBENCH Open Source Project and its possible future evolutions.
