We will give a brief outlook on the next steps regarding the sharing of the GPU and hardware virtualization. We will propose a software architecture that uses virtualization with a hypervisor and that is already implemented and available. The hypervisor creates isolated software partitions with integrated operating systems like Linux. This allows consumer electronics software to be reused in the vehicle and securely and safely connected to the in-vehicle network. One of the benefits of hardware virtualization is that the processors can be used more efficiently: Several partitions on the virtualized hardware can access one core, or, vice versa, one partition can tap into the computing power of several cores. What kind of opportunities presents themselves when approaching GPU virtualization? We intend to explain the chances while responsibly dealing with the related challenges.
